Comment
This is a very large Battery Energy Storage System (BESS for short). This time for the area of Mey, close to a site that received planning permission for a substation a while back. BESS are very problematic because the safety aspects are not assessed before planning consent is granted. Safety aspects are relevant to site selection and design and should be considered BEFORE an application is granted. All hazards should be declared, assessed and properly mitigated in an application. This has not been done here. The site is close to the North Coast 500 and right next to the National Cycle Route and because of its size and visibility it would have a considerable impact on tourism. In addition, the development will use part of the NC500 for construction traffic.
