Comment
This is a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS for short) close to the substation Thurso South. There are two more BESS for the immediate neighbourhood at pre-planning stage (Buckies BESS 24/03273/PAN and Geise Farm BESS 24/03833/SCRE), another one at full planning stage a little further but still close (BESS at Glengolly Farmhouse 24/00561/FUL), all of them very close to the River Thurso, and finally one across the A9 already approved (BESS at Mill House Stainland 22/02054/FUL). BESS are very problematic because the safety aspects are not assessed before planning consent is granted. Safety aspects are relevant to site selection and design and should be considered BEFORE an application is granted. An incident on this site would not only mean obnoxious smoke affecting Thurso and the wider area but also contaminated water run off potentially affecting the River Thurso.
